Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute Dining Hall

Troy, NY

Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute wanted to transform its existing Russell Sage resident dining hall into a more inviting environment, all while minimizing the reconfiguration of mechanical components.

A key aspect of our strategy was redirecting the students to a new entrance. We optimized the flow within the dining hall and enhanced students’ overall experience. Along with the redirection, our team utilized our ReNew expertise, adding all new finishes and new counters giving the space a fresh look (see below for before and after photos).

Large adjustments were made for students with dietary restrictions, changing the UCook station to a Simple Servings. The allergy-free zone allows students to access suitable food options and gives the ability to warm up items they have brought with them. This area is a closed space, which is critical to preventing the entry of other food items that could potentially impact students with allergies. Our team was successfully able to create this new section within the existing space, all while maintaining the continuous student flow.

We also worked with the operator to create additional station offerings for more variety in the cafe and incorporated a Grab & Go market right outside the entrance of the dining hall. This provides convenient hot or cold meals, along with coffee and tea.

Students returned to RPI in the fall of 2023 to this newly renovated space.
