400 Atlantic Street
Stamford, CT
When the client wished to add an expanded coffee offering to this office building, elite|studio e was brought in to design a full barista bar for the tenants. The 300 square foot concept needed to include several food options and have the ability to serve alcohol for evening events.
In order to achieve these goals, the elite|studio e team designed the back of house area to offer hot and cold food. The client wanted to serve bar-style food at the barista station, so elite was tasked with adding the appropriate equipment in the back preparation area. The client also wanted to offer deluxe smoothie options on their menu. The special equipment for this was stored in the back, while the main machines were placed in the front. elite specified a drawer-style freezer that holds the smoothie toppings and ingredients in the front of house.
For after-hour events, our team chose to add two undercounter refrigerators to the front of house area, one for beer and one for wine, enabling an easy transition from serving coffee to serving alcohol.
One of the unique aspects of this project was matching the surrounding finishes. The countertops and sides had to match the existing millwork on the bench and wall that abutted the barista bar, which our designers accomplished after intense scrutiny and research.
Our team also had to ensure the proper drainage was installed. The designers had to be strategic in where they placed the floor drains, since the floor couldn’t be penetrated. When it was discovered that the back of house space was too small for the originally requested sink, elite was successfully able to find a suitable replacement that fit in the required location.
The end result was a spacious and eye-catching barista bar that is able to cater to the needs of the employees.
